CHESTERTON | The American Heart Association will host a heart Walk in Porter County on Saturday, September 29 from 9-11 a.m. at Coffee Creek Center.
Over 1,000 Northwest Indiana residents are expected to take part in the two Heart Walks, with the goal of raising over a half a million dollars for the American Heart Association’s research, educational and awareness programs in the region and across the country.
The non-competitive walks feature one-, two- and three-mile routes and a free family-friendly health festival that includes food, games, giveaways, entertainment and much more.
For the second consecutive year Mike Finissi, senior vice president and chief operating officer of NIPSCO, will serve as chair of the Northwest Indiana Heart Walks. Last year Finissi was the nation’s No. 2 top fundraising walker, raising over $130,000 for the Heart Walk in 2011 and leading NIPSCO to raise over $200,000.
The Heart Walks feature teams of heart disease and stroke survivors, employees from local companies and people interested in fighting heart disease and stroke, America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
The Heart Walks are nationally sponsored by SUBWAY Restaurants and Jenny Craig. Local sponsors of the Northwest Indiana Heart Walks are ArcelorMittal, NIPSCO and Methodist Hospitals.
