The Inpatient Behavioral Medicine Unit at Methodist Hospitals is dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care in the least restrictive therapeutic environment. We demonstrate a high level of expertise in developing strategies to help patients manage their acute psychiatric and emotional needs.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in four adults experience a mental health disorder in a given year. Ten percent of children and adolescents in the United States suffer from serious emotional and mental disorders, according to the U.S. Surgeon General. The consequences of untreated mental illness are significant and can include unnecessary disability, unemployment, substance abuse, homelessness, inappropriate incarceration, suicide and wasted lives.
Fortunately, with appropriate medication and services tailored to their needs, most people diagnosed with serious mental illness can attain a satisfying level of achievement and independence.
In our safe, confidential and professional setting, patients have access to Board Certified psychiatrists, specially trained psychiatric nurses, Masters-prepared social workers and counselors, and expert clinical staff for therapeutic interventions, social services and discharge planning.
Team Approach
The doctor / therapy staff / patient relationship is key to our multidisciplinary treatment team approach. Patients and their families or guardians are given an active role in patient evaluation, stabilization, treatment, and discharge planning. Meetings with members of the treatment team and family members or guardians help to assure that safe and reasonable plans are in place to foster continued success following discharge from the hospital to home.
