Employees of Methodist Hospitals gathered recently for a luncheon meeting where CEO Ian McFadden presented awards to the hospitals' top ten fundraisers for the American Heart Association's 2010 Heart Walk.The recognition came just in time for Heart Month.
Last year, employees at the Gary and Merrillville campuses raised close to $30,000 raising Methodist Hospitals' total fundraising amount for the Heart Walk during its years of involvement to more than $360,000.
"We are proud of our accomplishment, and I want to thank all of you for your commitment and dedication to making sure we achieved our tradition of being Northwest Indiana's Top Fundraising Hospital for the Heart Walk," said McFadden.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment and true example of the 'Spirit of Methodist' as it reflects our commitment to the community and our support of the mission of the American Heart Association."
McFadden presented awards to the 10 captains who collected the most donations and a traveling trophy to 2010's Top Captain. The awards were presented as follows:
#1 Captain: Eileen Ryan at $6,270;
#2 Captain: Judy Rathjen at $5,510;
#3 Captain: Norma Reitz at $1,501;
#4 Captain: Andrea Williams at $1,500;
#5 Captain: Terri McCormick at $1,490;
#6 Captain: Ruthie McCowin at $1,384;
#7 Captain: McKenly Wright at $921;
#8 Captain: Elizabeth Stafford at $872;
#9 Captain: Laurel Valentino at $837; and
#10 Captain: Evelyn Morrison at $805.
Diane Kemp, executive director of the American Heart Association - Northwest Indiana Division, attended the luncheon and awarded Methodist Hospitals' CEO a recognition plaque. She encouraged ongoing support of the American Heart Association' Heart Walk.
