Methodist Hospitals Foundation’s 2012 reigning King and Queen of Mardi Gras, King Peter Melcher and Queen Fran Taylor, will crown the 2013 Prince and Princess, at this year’s Mardi Gras King and Queens Christmas Dinner. This Foundation’s Annual Mardi Gras event launches Methodist Hospitals’ employee-driven fundraising efforts at Methodist Hospitals. Although Mardi Gras Season begins at the Twelfth Night Party on January 6, 2013; the coronation is the official presentation of the court to the community and the beginning of Mardi Gras Revelry.
This year’s Mardi Gras activities will be led by Krewe Rex Captain Darlene Brown, one of Methodist physical therapists. This third annual fundraising program has set a goal of raising $100,000 plus for the Methodist Hospitals’ Foundation.
Each year our 10 Krewe’s (Auxiliaries) nominate a member of their Krewe, who become a Member of the Royal Court and raise philanthropic dollars for the Methodist Hospitals’ Foundation. Originally in order to be a Krewe member you needed to be an employee or retiree of Methodist Hospitals. Today, with more than 70 members, Krewe membership has expanded to members of the community whom have a special interest in supporting the mission of Methodist Hospitals. The Prince and Princess who generates the largest donations to the foundation is crowned the King and Queen of Mardi Gras. The King and Queen represent the foundation as Ambassadors during the following year.
This year’s Mardi Gras Princesses and Princes will be announced to the public at the Coronation on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Innsbrook Country Club in Merrillville Indiana, at 6:00 p.m.
