Crown Point resident Margaret Detert was honored recently for achieving 50 years of continuous volunteer service at Methodist Hospitals.
Detert's achievement helped make the annual Auxiliary Awards Luncheon special.
Detert proudly wears her pink jacket as a member of the Methodist Hospitals Auxiliary, as well as being a dedicated and exceptional volunteer, according to hospital officials. She chairs the volunteer group as well as being the corresponding secretary for the auxiliary.
The "golden" volunteer received a bouquet of flowers and a gold-plated pin to represent her volunteer service hours.
All Methodist Hospitals volunteers were honored for serving a total of 34,394 service hours for the 2012-13 year.
Detert grew up in Missouri, then moved to Northwest Indiana with her husband, Robert Detert. As a stay-at-home mother, Detert decided to spend some of her time volunteering at the hospital with her fellow sorority sisters.
The luncheon was held at Innsbrook Country Club in Merrillville.
