In 2017, I got sick. I had an overactive thyroid, and it led me to develop congestive heart failure. I came to the Methodist ER, and I was in the IMCU for eight days. During that time, I thought I may want to go into nursing, but I wasn’t too sure. Then, I had some great nurses who were very compassionate and caring. And that experience made me decide that this is what I want to do.
I was nervous about everything after nursing school. I heard that nurses “eat their young.” Some of the nurses I was assigned to during clinicals at other hospitals weren’t so welcoming. But Methodist Hospitals is a great place to be. The nurses are great, and the doctors are great. The doctors at Methodist are my own doctors. I use them for myself. As a nurse at Methodist, you learn so much, it’s so hands on. I’ve learned more at Methodist in just short of a year than I learned in nursing school. I think Methodist has really helped, and still helping to prepare me to be a great nurse.
You can feel when something is genuine. And the genuineness within the doctors and nurses and all the staff here is real. My experience has been great, I’ve felt supported. I’ve felt encouraged. I think this is a great learning environment, too. We have a lot of doctors who are also willing to teach.
A good day for me is leaving knowing that I did my job to the best of my ability. If you can change one life, then you’ve done a good job.
