La Porte softball edges Clay

Olivia Zarantonello was 2-for-4 and Megan Reed singled in a run to back the four-hit pitching of MaCayla Boone as La Porte held off South Bend Clay 4-3 in softball Friday. Shelby Linn had two of the Slicers’ five stolen bases.

La Porte reschedules baseball games

La Porte’s varsity baseball doubleheader at Logansport postponed March 30 will be played at 10 a.m. today. The JV will travel to Logansport to play single games with Logansport and Lafayette Jeff starting at 10.

Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing

The inaugural Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing will be on May 19 at Beechwood Golf Course with registration and lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Information concerning hole sponsorships, or to register a team may be found on the La Porte High School athletic department website, by contacting the LPHS athletic department, or emailing Ed Gilliland at egilliland@lpcsc.k12.in.us.

Slicer Health Clinic offers sports physicals

The Slicer Health Clinic of La Porte Physician Network will providing sports physicals for the upcoming school year in April and May. All students participating in a sport during summer or the upcoming school year will need a physical done after April 1. Physicals will be performed by appointment between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Fridaay at the Slicer Health Clinic at La Porte High School. The fee is $20. Registration forms and physical forms can be downloaded from http://www.lpcsc.k12.in.us/health_clinic, or obtained at the school. Bring both forms to the appointment. A high school student can but are not required to have an adult present for their exam if consent and registration packets are filled out completely. For details about the physicals or forms, call Elisa Bergquist at 219-324-1377 during the hours listed.

NWI pair tabbed Junior All-Stars

Chesterton’s Jake Wadding and Gary 21st Century’s Johnell Davis have been selected Indiana Junior All-Stars as members of the Red (North) Group. A total of 24 players were chosen with Dre Davis (Lawrence Central), Trey Galloway (Culver Academy), Jaden Ivey (Mishawaka Marian), Anthony Leal (Bloomington South), Nijel Pack (Lawrence Central) and Charlie Yoder (Westview) comprising the Core Group. The Junior All-Stars will play two games against the Kentucky Junior All-Stars, the first tentatively set for June 1 at a Kentucky site to be announced and the second on June 3 at Jeffersonville High School. The players in the Red Group will play in a June 5 game against the Indiana Seniors at a site to be announced. All three games will be doubleheaders with the 2019 Indiana girls Junior All-Stars.

City to play in RailCats Challenge

The Michigan City baseball team will be among 37 schools from Illinois and Indiana who will play in the 17th Annual High School Challenge presented by Northwest Indiana Orthopedic and Spine Center at Methodist Hospitals at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary between April 1-27. The Wolves will face Metea Valley (Ill.) at 4:30 p.m. on April 19. Tickets can be purchased through the athletic department.
