The Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospitals Recognized by Two Prestigious Organizations

The American Heart and Stroke Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society recognized the Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospitals for their commitment to exceptional patient care.

Methodist Hospitals has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Plus Target: Stroke Elite Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.  Methodist Hospitals earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients also receive education on managing their health; get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.

“We are pleased to recognize Methodist Hospitals for their commitment to stroke care,” said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., national chairperson of the Quality Oversight Committee and Executive Vice Chair of Neurology, Director of Acute Stroke Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. “Research has shown that hospitals adhering to clinical measures through the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement initiative can often see fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates.”

The Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospital, a leading provider of care for people living with MS in Northwest Indiana, was also officially recognized as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Partners in MS Care program. This formal recognition honors the Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional, coordinated MS care; and a continuing partnership with the Society to address the challenges of people affected by MS.

The Society’s Partners in MS Care program recognizes committed providers whose practices support the Society’s initiative of affordable access to high quality MS healthcare for everyone living with MS – regardless of geography, disease progression, and other disparities.

“We are so proud to partner with the Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospitals to enhance coordinated, comprehensive care for the people who live with MS in Northwest Indiana,” said Beverley Stafford, Executive Director of the Indiana State Chapter of the National MS Society,  “In earning this recognition,  the Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospitals has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in MS care, making a tremendous impact on people affected by MS in our community,” Stafford continued.
