Lyndsay Simpson, RN

Southlake Campus, Assistant Director of Critical Care

Methodist Hospitals’ mission, vision, and values deeply resonate with me both personally and professionally. The hospital’s dedication to delivering excellent patient care and ensuring employee satisfaction has made it a wonderful place to work for over 20 years. I’m proud to be part of this organization and look forward to many more years of service.

What sets Methodist Hospitals apart from other institutions is its culture of teamwork and collaboration. Every member of the healthcare team is encouraged to work together to provide the best possible care for our patients. This collaborative spirit not only enhances patient outcomes but also creates a positive work environment. This was particularly evident during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, where our teamwork shone brightly.

My versatile and empathetic leadership style prioritizes the wellbeing and development of my team members. I’m committed to supporting them in their personal and professional growth and I understand the importance of work-life balance. I maintain an open-door policy and am always available to my team, which I believe helps create a positive and supportive work environment within my nursing units.

To ensure efficient operations within those units, I emphasize collaboration with other disciplines such as dietary, housekeeping, IT, and engineering. This interdisciplinary cooperation helps keep our units running smoothly and efficiently.

Effective communication and collaboration among nursing staff are crucial for promoting teamwork, enhancing patient care, and creating a positive work environment. I foster this through active listening, maintaining open lines of communication, showing respect, setting boundaries, and leading by example.

Ensuring that my staff feels valued, supported, and motivated is a priority for me. That’s because what I love most about Methodist is its “family” atmosphere. So, I’m especially determined to recognize the achievements and challenges of our nurses through coaching, listening, and acknowledgment. I also try to organize fun and engaging unit-based activities to promote teamwork and camaraderie.

My management approach aligns closely with Methodist Hospitals’ mission, vision, and values. By engaging with the nursing staff to deliver exceptional patient care in a supportive and non-toxic environment, I strive to embody and promote the core values of our organization. I know from my own experience that Methodist Hospitals acknowledges the critical role nurses play in patient care and is dedicated to supporting their growth and advancement. My own career progression—from a nurse extern to roles such as Manager and Assistant Director, with the hospital’s support for my Master’s in Nursing—exemplifies this dedication.
